This piece is a dyptich. The firs part is called “Booby birds” and the second one “Manatee”. For writing this piece I worked with two main concepts. The first one is WANDERING, which is related to the Volharding. One of its definitions is perseverance, trying hard to get something, keep going until reaching a goal. This definition maked me think of its opposite, wandering, wich is more related with my music. Moving in an aimless way. The second concept is AWKWARDNESS, moving with difficulty, lacking of graceful. Music is a very abstract language. I like trying to communicate concrete feelings with abstract elements. When I say “concrete feelings” I’m thinking about joy or dessolation or peace. Just awkwardness is for me a more complex and rich feeling, so, more interesting. And abstract elements are in my musical language sound spots, short motifs or melodies, or instrumental textures.
So, coming back to the title, these two animals, the booby birds and the manatee, are kind of ugly and almost grotesque, and in that way they inspired me a kind of aesthetics awkwardness.
